Alternatives

SaneBox alternatives

SaneBox does one job: move unimportant mail out of the way, on nearly any email provider, without a new app. Most alternatives do that job inside a specific email app, and some add AI drafting on top. Which trade you want decides the pick.

In short

The main SaneBox alternatives are Shortwave (AI filters and bundles for Gmail), Superhuman Mail (Auto Labels and Auto Archive for Gmail and Outlook), Fyxer (AI categories inside Gmail or Outlook), Spark Mail (a free Smart Inbox), and Copilot in Outlook (Prioritize my inbox for Microsoft 365). Synced, in private beta, takes a different approach: instead of sorting mail, it drafts replies for approval.

What to check before replacing SaneBox

  • Your provider. SaneBox works with Gmail, Microsoft 365, iCloud, Yahoo, Fastmail, IMAP, and Exchange. Most alternatives below cover only Gmail, or Gmail and Outlook.
  • Your email app. SaneBox sorts on the server, so any app sees the result. Shortwave, Superhuman, and Spark sort inside their own apps.
  • What gets read. SaneBox says it analyzes headers and never stores full emails. AI tools that summarize or draft read message content, so check each one's data policy.

For reference, SaneBox's pricing page listed Snack at $9.49 a month or $65 a year on September 13, 2026, after a 7-day free trial.

Shortwave: AI filters written in plain English

Shortwave's AI filters take a prompt and then label, archive, star, or delete matching mail, and bundles group newsletters and notifications together. It has a free plan; paid plans on its Business tab start at $30 per seat per month, with 3 to 50 AI filters depending on tier. It needs a Gmail or Google Workspace account. Best for Gmail users who want SaneBox-style sorting plus an AI assistant, in a new email app.

Superhuman Mail: Auto Labels and Auto Archive

Superhuman's AI separates marketing, cold pitches, and social updates with Auto Labels and can archive them automatically. You can write custom labels from short prompts and split your inbox into tabs by label. Starter is $25 per member per month billed annually. Best for people who want sorting and a fast email client for Gmail or Outlook, and don't mind switching apps.

Fyxer: categories inside the inbox you already use

Fyxer sorts incoming mail into categories like To Respond, FYI, and Marketing directly in Gmail or Outlook, and you choose which categories stay in the inbox. It also drafts replies in your voice and never sends them for you. Plans start at $22.50 per user per month billed annually after a 7-day trial. Best for SaneBox users who want to keep their current app and add AI drafts. See Synced vs Fyxer.

Spark Mail: a free Smart Inbox

Spark's Free plan includes Smart Inbox, which separates newsletters and notifications from personal mail. Spark also has Gatekeeper for screening and blocking unwanted senders. It supports the widest provider list here after SaneBox, including iCloud, Yahoo, and IMAP. Best for anyone whose main goal is a cheaper way to get a quieter inbox, and who is willing to use Spark as their email app.

Copilot in Outlook: Prioritize my inbox

Microsoft's Copilot in Outlook FAQ describes a Prioritize my inbox feature alongside summaries and Draft with Copilot. It's part of Microsoft 365 Copilot, which requires a qualifying Microsoft 365 plan; Copilot Business was listed at $21 per user per month paid yearly. Best for Microsoft 365 organizations that would rather use what their license already covers.

Synced: when the problem is replying, not sorting

Synced isn't a filter. It reads new messages from Gmail, Outlook, Slack, Microsoft Teams chats, WhatsApp Business, and other connected Inboxes, writes an Action Plan for each, and holds drafts for your approval. If SaneBox already got the important mail to the top and the remaining pain is answering it, Synced is a complement more than a replacement. It's in private beta with a Free plan of 20 Action Plans a week. See Synced vs SaneBox.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Is there a free alternative to SaneBox?

Spark Mail's Free plan includes Smart Inbox, and Shortwave has a free plan that its docs say covers most productivity features. Both require using their email app rather than sorting on the server like SaneBox.

Which SaneBox alternative works with iCloud or Yahoo?

Spark Mail supports iCloud, Yahoo, and IMAP directly. Shortwave can only reach those accounts by forwarding them into Gmail. Fyxer, Superhuman, Copilot, and Synced are listed for Gmail, Outlook, or Microsoft accounts.

Do SaneBox alternatives read the full content of my email?

Tools that summarize or draft have to read message content. SaneBox says it analyzes headers and never stores full emails. Shortwave, Fyxer, Superhuman, and Spark each publish statements that your data isn't used to train third-party AI models; check each vendor's page for specifics.
